Science Spark : Preparing food increases liking and consumption

It is certainly a very intuitive result, but it is now proven : the food that you make yourself test always better (which is known as the Ikea effect). Simone Dohle, Sina Rall and Michael Siegrist from the ETH Zurich confirmed this in a study published this week in Food Quality and Preferences. Interestingly, they also showed that preparing food could facilitate overconsumption, ie people are less sensitive to calories...

Concretely, this clearly shows the need for food producers to engage consumers in the product preparation.
